EFT TAPPING
Western medicine has so far produced very few treatments that take full advantage of the ways the body’s energies can be directed to mediate the complex flow of biological information that influences health. Energy psychology on the other hand, is part of a coming wave of such approaches.”
- David Feinstein, Phd.
What is EFT?
Emotional Freedom Technique Tapping is an energy psychology that provides safe and fast relief from the stored up experiences of the past that might be impacting our present.
It was born out of the knowing that the meridians in the body, as used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), end very close to the surface of the skin, and can be accessed simply through tapping those points. These meridians act as ‘energetic highways’ that run throughout the body, incorporating all major organs and linking all parts of ourselves to receptors in the brain.
Like in TCM, EFT Tapping works on the understanding that all things begin as energy, and as such, by tapping on the end points of the meridians we are able to shift the energetic disturbances that may have accumulated to create physical, emotional or mental discomfort over the years.
Acupoints have a higher concentration of receptors that are sensitive to mechanical stimulation; and specific points, when stimulated send signals directly to areas of the brain that are associated with emotions… acupuncture points have been called “windows” into the body’s energy system [which] can be used for restoring physical and mental health.
Stimulating an acupoint can send impulses to areas of the body that are far away from the point itself. For instance, an acupuncture needle inserted into a specific point on the toe can be seen in a “functional MRI” as affecting activity in the brain, though no nerve, vascular or other physical connections are known to exist.
Another study, also using an MRI, demonstrated that stimulating specific points on the skin not only changed brain activity; it also deactivated areas of the brain that are involved with the experiences of fear and pain.
Stimulating certain acupunture points also causes the secretion of seratonin.”
- David Feinstein, PhD. “The Healing Power of EFT & Energy Psychology”
EFT is an ‘evidence based’ method, with many peer reviewed, independent studies illustrating it’s efficacy, as can be found here.. It has long been successfully used on patients displaying lifelong phobias, chronic pain, anxiety, depression and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), most notably.
The studies show EFT to be an effective self healing tool shifting emotional blocks, subconscious belief systems and the physical manifestation of past experiences as well as being used to combat anxiety, within the NHS and other healthcare settings.
EFT not only works very quickly but is totally safe to use as an at home practice.
How I use EFT Tapping in my work with actors…
Tapping offers us a unique opportunity to safely identify the root cause of the imposter syndrome and self sabotage that holds us back, and to proactively do something about it!
The sensations we experience in our bodies can provide us with a gateway into ourselves, and by gently guiding my clients into these sensations they are able to release the emotional imprints and the past experiences they signpost that might have been holding them back for decades. Without having to rehash the stories of their past, we are able to unpack the weight of the experience and soothe the part of them affected by it. This way we meet their deeply rooted unmet needs , create new neural pathways, calm the nervous system and grant them the clarity and freedom to show up in the ways they truly desire. As actors, creatives and collaborators in life.
EFT Tapping is built into the fabric of every course or program I offer, with the intention of empowering my clients to incorporate it into their day to day routines.
I provide live EFT practices to address what comes up in sessioons, as well as longer, more therapeutic EFT journeys that dive a little deeper. Both aim to conquer real challenges in real time with real results.
EFT Tapping is an adaptable practice that brings many benefits, and because it cannot be done ‘wrong,’ it is totally safe to try at home.
